The Samoa Institute of Accountants has five classes of membership, set out in the Institute's Rules. Two are applied for, two are conferred on distinguished members, and one supports you while you complete the CA Program.

Flagship qualificationChartered Accountant (CA)
The benchmark credential for leading in auditing, taxation, financial reporting and advisory work. Requires an accounting degree, completion of the CA Program and three years of senior-level experience.

Practical recognitionAccounting Technician (AT)
For professionals who have built their expertise through hands-on work. Requires a diploma with a major in accounting and ten years of experience preparing or auditing financial statements.

Join the Institute's professional community from day one while you complete the CA Program, with access to the member network and development resources for up to four years.

Conferred by nominationFellow Chartered Accountant (FCA)
The Institute's highest professional honour, for Chartered Accountants with at least 20 years of experience including ten in a senior executive role, nominated with the endorsement of two CA referees.
About Fellowship
Awarded by CouncilLife Member
Awarded at the discretion of the Council to Fellows whose achievement and service to the profession and the community have been of the highest degree. Life membership cannot be applied for.
About Life membershipApplications open once a year, around February
Applications for Chartered Accountant and Accounting Technician membership are considered by the Council. Provisional membership is open to anyone accepted into the CA Program.
Chartered Accountant criteria
- An undergraduate degree or higher with a major in accounting
- Successful completion of the Chartered Accountants Program
- At least three years' experience at senior level, directly involved with accountancy or auditing
- Aged 21 or over at the time of application
- A permanent citizen of Samoa as defined by the Immigration Act 1966, resident in Samoa at the time of application
Accounting Technician criteria
- A diploma or higher with a major in accounting
- At least ten years of work experience involving the preparation or auditing of financial statements
- Of good character
- A permanent citizen of Samoa as defined by the Immigration Act 1966, resident in Samoa at the time of application

Successful applicants are admitted, entered on the Register of Members and invited to the next Institute event.
Certificate of Public Practice
Under section 15 of the Samoa Institute of Accountants Act 2006, no one may offer accounting or auditing services to the public in Samoa without a current Certificate of Public Practice issued by the Institute, or a Temporary Certificate for a specific engagement.
Certificate of Public Practice
For Chartered Accountant members who are ordinarily resident in Samoa, have been members for at least two years, have three years' acceptable experience in a public practice office within the last ten years, have suitable premises in Samoa, and are not in full-time employment.
Apply by letter addressed to the President with supporting documents, by email or in person at the SIA office.
How to applyTemporary Certificate for overseas practitioners
For members of a recognised overseas accounting body who hold a current certificate of public practice in their home country and need to carry out work for a specific Samoa client. The certificate covers only the client and terms approved by the Council, and a fee is payable within 45 days of approval.
